A misconception Calvinists have is that saved people WILL have works. And, if you do NOT have works then your faith must be dead which means... you aren't really saved. It means you were simply mistaken... it means you only THOUGHT God gave you the grace to be saved but, well... no works means no salvation. So, sorry... you're damned.
There's always at least one verse to disprove Calvinist heresy. The verse that disproves this is Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh NOT, but BELIEVEth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his FAITH is counted for righteousness.
There's a second verse as well Romans 4:9 ... for we say that FAITH was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
Notice the words Faith and Believe and righteousness. When you have these words in one verse you have gold... you have a SALVATION verse.
What happens when you believe on Jesus, when you put your faith in Him? You are saved, you are righteous.
Only a Calvinist would discount this and say no... it doesn't apply here.
Where do they get this crazy idea... that you WILL have works IF you are saved, otherwise your faith is dead and you are mistaken about your salvation?
They aren't saved and can't read James 2 correctly.
James 2 starts off talking about faith. It says do NOT be a respecter of persons when it comes to faith. Do not look at the rich person and think more highly of him and his faith than a poor person and his faith.
Then, in verse 14 it asks What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
This is two QUESTIONS back to back. They are not STATEMENTS of truth.
A Calvinist will read the first question and then think 'Can faith save him' is the answer. Their answer will be No... faith CAN'T save him if he doesn't have works. Therefore, you MUST have works if you are saved. IF you are saved then the PROOF will be your WORKS.
Silly Calvinists. You don't take a question and make it an answer.
Can faith save him? ABSOLUTELY! Faith is the ONLY thing that saves ANYBODY. PERIOD.
The question is What does IT profit... What does YOUR faith profit anybody if you have no works? If your brother or sister are naked and hungry and all you say is 'be warmed', 'be filled', ie 'Be Blessed!'... then how in the world is YOUR FAITH going to profit THEM? Your faith is as good as DEAD to THEM!
This isn't about YOUR faith and YOUR salvation. This is about YOUR faith and THEIR salvation. It's about YOU meeting THEIR needs. It's saying if you have the means to help your naked and starving brother or sister and all you do is say 'Be Blessed' then your faith is as good as dead... TO THEM... because they can't SEE your faith. They can only see your works.
Show me your faith WITHOUT works and I will show you my faith BY my works.
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith ONLY.
Abraham was justified by His WORKS but, not before God.
You are justified by your WORKS but, not before God.
Abraham was justified by His FAITH before God.
You are justified by your FAITH before God.
Works only justifies you before men because that is all they can see.
Man looketh on the outward appearance but, God looketh at the heart.
Is works necessary for salvation? NO. Faith is the only thing necessary for salvation and if you don't have works then your faith is good enough for God to make you righteous.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses (ie. WORKS) are as filthy rags...
All of your works do NOT impress God. As a matter of fact your works are like used bloody tampons to God.
Imagine you have 4 or 5 daughters and every month their period lasts 2-7 days. And, every day one of your daughters presents you with her filthy, dirty, disgusting, bloody used tampon and says... Here Dad! I did this for you! You could have a used tampon 'present' every day for a month... for the year.
Yeah. That's what God thinks about your works. God's name is Jealous because He is a Jealous God. He wants ALL of the glory. You ain't gonna impress anybody but yourself with your works because they sure don't impress God.
PS. Good people go to heaven. Good people go to hell. Bad people go to heaven. Bad people go to hell. Believers go to heaven. Unbelievers go to hell.
Everybody has works. Saved people have good works. Unsaved people have good works. Saved people have evil works. Unsaved people have evil works. WORKS is NO measure of faith and contributes NOTHING to salvation.
